LG and Samsung both hired visual design experts this week to improve the quality of their user interfaces, according to Electronista.
LG was first and on Tuesday hired Korea Institute of Advanced Technology dean Lee Kun-pyo to head up its Design Management Center. Samsung immediately followed suit on Wednesday by hiring Kookmin University's professor of Visual Communications Design Jung Ji-hong, who will now oversee smartphone interface design at the company's Mobile Design Group.
The Apple iPhone has enjoyed enormous success largely due to its visually pleasing and user friendly interface design. Unfortunately, UI design has often been cited as a weakness of LG and Samsung smartphones.
