The suspect who allegedly grabbed an iPad from a man at Cherry Creek mall has now been charged with trying to arrange the murder of his victim.
Brandon Darnell Smith, 21, is in jail after stealing a newly purchased iPad from Bill Jordan. The bag holding Jordan's new iPad was wrapped around his hand when Smith allegedly grabbed the bag, tearing off the skin from the pinky finger of Jordans left hand. According to a probable cause statement, a letter was sent by Smith in which he attempted to arrange Jordans murder. The letter was intercepted by authorities at the Denver Justice Center.
In the letter, Smith identifies Jordan and his home address, telling the person the following:
"YOU GET THIS DONE! AND I GO ON ANYTHING I'll rob a bank if you want me too. Just do this for your boy and I got you for sure. You know how we do it."
Smith points out that Jordan's address is included and says, "That's the address, so handle it A.S.A.P."
He concludes by saying, "I really need this otherwise it's a wrap!! If you do this, case is dropped."
@EU- I agree with you on that point-- it is a reflection of our own culture if such statistics occur for Black Americans in the US but not in other countries for citizens of African descent. It gets into real social science that I won't even pretend to be qualified to speculate on...
Not to condone any of the racist commentary below - it's done out of ignorance - but how does your comment serve as a reasonable rebuttal., and isn't it, in fact, ignorant? How do you know this guy is hungry or that he lives on the street? Even if it is indeed true, does it rationalize the crime for which he is currently in jail or the alleged attempt to have his victim killed to avoid trial? Stealing, violence against other human beings, and attempted murder are bad, no matter the race or socioeconomic status of the perpetrator.
Wow! Racial slurs. Really? You do realize that you made yourself seem unintelligent and ignorant. Everyone has a right to believe what they want but to say something like that was uncalled for. Posting something so hurtful on a public forum should not be allowed. You just alienated an entire race of people that may have shared the same view as you on how horrible the incident is by using just one word. It's a shame that things like this still happen today.
There is still hope for this young man's future. When he gets of the penitentiary, hopefully he can apply for Stanford Medical School and then he will be provided an Ipad of his own to further his education. Later as a hand surgeon, he can repair the man's missing digit with a bionic prosthesis. The world will be right again...
