Verizon will be offering iPhone buyers a $30 unlimited data plan, according to a WSJ report.
The carrier's heir apparent and chief operating officer, Lowell McAdam, told us the news ahead of the companys meeting with investors.
"I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot," he said. Not offering an unlimited plan would put up a barrier for customers who might otherwise switch from AT&T, he said.
Engadget got a snapshot of the new data packages which can be seen below...
I see that the unlimited data plan is only for "3G smart phones." I would guess that it will not be available for 4G phones, nor do I think that you will be able to keep it when 4G phones become available. As a result, I don't think that will be that great a deal.
Additionally, it is not clear that there will be any alternative for people who don't want unlimited data. "Oh, you only need 500MB per month. Too bad. It will still be $29.99." This will displease many people.
I doubt Att goes back to their unlimited plan. According to them the majority of iPhone users don't need more then 2gb. But that was before hulu and netflix came out. Since those two apps and playing call of duty online with my ps3 I have been averaging 100 gb or more a month. But I don't c Att changing
every single att iphone user that I talk to will jump ship on the 10th.
Even people with other phones that wanted to get an iphone waited for verizon.
I have a feeling att will lose more than 35% of their clients by the end of the year
Heck ya they will jump over! I would b amongst the first to pre order on the third if I didn't have to pay to cancel three lines at Att and purchase 2 new iPhones since you can't just switch what you have over. But I'm personally tired of Att shitty service. It's rediculous to be on 3G one minute and without moving or touching the phone to get kicked off to mobile edge. And all the dropped calls!!! Even still though I don't see it's worth to go over unless verizons iPhone is lte capable. Tell then I'll cross my fingers, toes, eyes and anything else I can do in hopes Att improves on their network now that they have comp.
