Taiwan-based backlight module maker Coretronic will become a supplier for Apple's iPad, according to a DigiTimes report.
The shipment penetration rate of Coretronic's BLUs for LED TVs reached 35% in first-quarter 2011 and it expects the penetration to reach 40% in the second. Fellow Taiwan-based BLU maker Radiant is also a supplier for Apple.
According to Coretronic, shipments for projectors and backlight modules for TVs will grow over 10% in May. Coretronic has been working with Chimei Innolux (CMI) to provide backlight modules for iPad panels. However, CMI was only certified by Apple in May, hence BLUs for 9.7-inch panels for iPad have been shipping to South Korea-based LG Display. Radiant, another supplier for LG Display also ships to Samsung Electronics.
