A leaked photo confirms that Apple will launch its 'Back to School' promo tomorrow with only a $100 iTunes gift card being offered.
The photo obtained by MacRumors shows that Apple will give students a $100 gift card that can be used for the Mac App Store, iTunes Store, App Store or iBookstore purchases along with the purchase of a Mac.
In the fine print it specifically lists "June 16th" as the launch date and September 20, 2011 as the end date.
For the past several years Apple had offered students an iPod touch alongside the purchase of a new Mac.
As a former Apple Retail employee, I am appalled. This is the WORST 'back to school' promo ever. I agree, an apple gift card would have been worthwhile, even if it could be used only on Apple products. But the app store? It costs Apple almost nothing. This seems a very greedy move for a company making so much. This a great opportunity to organize as consumers -- especially students -- to boycott this promo: keep your computer another year, buy a cheap laptop and make a hacintosh, or find a used mac on craigslist. Let's take a stand and vote with our dollars and not reward Apple for cutting back an originally amazing student special, especially when this company is making as much profit as they are. Spread the word to students and parents alike.
Really? REALLY??!??
$100 Apple Store gift card, now THAT would have been a promo! I mean, I don't want an iPod on my next purchase ... but I sure could use an airport express. Give your customers some flexibility on how to spend the promotion. Before a free iPod was what, $199? (If you chose the iPod touch of course) So now they drop the promotion to a $100 value? Well shoot, at least let me pick what I want to spend the lesser value on.
Yes, Apple doesn't need a promotion to move it's products. However, they have been known for great customer service and making your customers feel appreciated ranks high on that list, even if it's only once a year.
What did apple make in profit this year??
Come on this is pathetic! Thought the plan was to get em whale there young to keep buying apple for there lives
I know right??! It definitely COULD get some malware, but thank GOD Apple gives free updates to kill it! Good call man, you just needed a little re-editing!
