Pegatron to Outbid Foxconn for iPad 3 Production?

After winning an order to produce 15 million iPhone 5 units, Pegatron will likely land another order to manufacture the iPad 3 as well, according to CENS.

Exclusively handling assembly of iPhone and iPad and production of related parts, Hon Hai, the world's largest electronic manufacturer by revenues, has dominated the supply chain for a time. But the status has changed this year, as Pegatron has just won Apple's contract order for iPhone 5 production.

Hon Hai is likely to turn Apple's another contract order for iPad 3 manufacturing over the Taiwanese counterpart, as the customer has considered looking for a second iPad supplier to reduce over-dependence on Hon Hai, especially at a time after an explosion accident occurred at the firm's Chengdu factory in May.


Earlier this month, Apple was rumored to be adding Pegatron to alleviate some of the risk involved in having only one manufacturer; however, a followup report said that Foxconn had persuaded the company not to share the orders with Pegatron.
