The iPhone Dev-Team has just released RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 which offers quick iOS 5 jailbreaking for Windows and fixes Location Services issue for iPhone 3GS devices running on the 06.15 baseband. This is still a tethered jailbreak.
With RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 Windows users no longer need to pre-select the 5.0 IPSW when first jailbreaking, also:
We've released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers. For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don't even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.
It's okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose "Jailbreak" again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can't yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it's already been jailbroken).
You can download the latest RedSn0w version from here.

Springboard crash attributed to Winterboard seems to have been fixed. Winterboard is now up and running without any glitches. Thanks Jay for the fix :)
Keep in mind that some of the app developer needs to update their apps to work with ios5. When u click in an app, it will note whether the app has been verified to work with the iOS you're currently on. Also keep in mind that and dependent apps required by the app you are installing would all need to be verified to work with IOS5. Or else you will experience crashes.
Not sure what you mean by "preserving bandwidth" but if you are looking to preserve your baseband, you can use RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 or later to do so. Simply click on the Extras button first and create a custom IPSW file. Point it to the iOS5 IPSW file for your phone and it will create a No_BB_version of that file that RedSn0w will use to upgrade your iPhone without upgrading your baseband. To be certain, those are the steps I would do.
For me this update did not work..
I Have 3 iphone 4
and 1 3gs
The new updated redsnow is unable to re-jailbreak any of these.
I have the signal dropping problem on my 3gs but simply disabling location services seem to help. But so far I have been unsuccessful with this update..
I have not bought an iPhone 4S yet I've waiting for untethered jailbreak..
Still using Iphone4 on 4.3.3 ..
I'm not buying one until the untethered Jailbreak is released .
Even my 14 yr daughter doesn't want one until there will be an untethered jailbreak..
I think Apple will sell even more iPhone if there is a jailbreak?
So just wondering when is going to be an Untethered available?
Thanks DEV TEAM for your help and efforts
Really I appreciated
You forgot the final step. You need to boot tethered.
