These side by side photos taken by Camera+ show how much the iPhone camera has improved from the iPhone 2G to the iPhone 4S.
A photo comparisons from all iPhone version cameras (First generation iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, the new iPhone 4S), a point & shoot camera, the Canon S95 ($500), and a professional dSLR, the Canon 5DMKII ($4000+) in two situations: 1. A macro setting to test detail and quality of the cameras; 2. A backlit skyline shot.
Check out the side by side comparison below or hit the link to see the full size images.

Apparently, the author to this article forgot the sample shots from the Canon S95 and Canon 5DMKII for us to view in comparison to pics taken from all iPhone models. =/

Well... i have an iphone 3gs and also a Canon 5D Mark ii, compare an image of an iphone with a canon 5d is like comparing a bicycle with a ferrari but ok, first the video and now the photos... use both of them and you will see the BIG differences.

Nice comparison but I think the 4 may have the better color and the 4s is brighter and sharper. But I think the color is off.. Hard to tell though without seeing the original item.

I can understand the buildings still being there but to have the same item in the macro being in the same position yeah yeah obvious fake. 4s still the best.

the original and the 3g has been doctored, I owned every iPhone since 07, and the pictures were never this bad.

Yeah the original and the 3G aren't even in focus? Haha

Andy - October 25, 2011 at 12:02am
Original and 3G had no auto focus, so we're always shite close up.

i agree.. also iPhone 3G are focused at near infinity. i've had no problems focusing to close objects. just not too close obviously.
