New Apple TV Teardown Reveals A5 Chip, 512 MB RAM, 8GB Flash Storage

A teardown of the new Apple TV by aicjofs at xmbc.org reveals a single-core A5 chip, 512 MB of RAM, and 8GB of flash storage.

The A5 package was identified as APL2498 and the RAM appears to be Hynix, H9TKNNN4K. A quick search of that part number reveals it be 512MB in size.

The flash storage looks like Toshiba THGVX1G6D2HL A07 which is 8GB in size, the same of amount of storage as the second generation device.

Other parts found include: SMSC LAN9730 USB to 10/100 ethernet, TXC Mm3v 27.00, TXC Mp3G 25.00.

Interestingly, the new Apple TV appears to have an second Wi-Fi antenna that the previous generation didn't have.

Actually, i say it's no point getting apple tv. i would say just wait for next upgrade since i have apple tv and ipad 2. not much uprgrade so no use.

Wow what a rip off to demand for this device $100. These parts are worth $10 maybe $12

In which world do u live. It's like when you go to a restaurant, you count the value of the ingredients if the food you get . . . :) Take it easy brother ;)

That's like walking into a restaurant, and saying Wow, what a ripoff, you're charging £25 for that meal, but the ingredients only cost £5. It's not the parts that make up the total cost of the item, it's the R&D, manufacturing costs, etc.

You do realize that in order to get this price point they have to make a run of like 10 million units?

They said they manufacture it in China so low manufacturing costs ... add maybe $10 for R&D
