Quick Info Sheet for iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak

Quick Info Sheet for iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak

Posted May 21, 2012 at 12:04pm by
MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team has posted some details on the upcoming untethered jailbreak from pod2g.

---
● All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements

● @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
- the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
- @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!

● The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe

● Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
- timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.

● For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=4U6DQGJ2NRVUN

● Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).

Ok I have a serious question for this forum. Does anyone know if this JB/unlock will work with the 3GS that has the newer toshiba bb chip? Aka built after 28th week of 2011? That's my dilemma and if this works ill be über thankful to the devteam!

I'm just waiting to jailbreak my iPad. A lot of people want a jailbreak. What people do with it is their business, so there's no reason to go around stopping a jailbreak the majority of people want. Anyways, we're here to look at details on the jailbreak.

Donate!! Anyone planning on downloading should donate. This isn't easy or else we wouldn't be on this site looking for other people's work. Great job and I'll be looking forward to iOS 6 jailbreak when I get my iPhone 5 :)

Do you think jailbreaking is mainly for piracy or for customization? I am concerned about the release of this jailbreak.

I love jailbreak because I can tweak my phone the way I want. Apple no longer controls my phone once I jailbreak it. Most people want it for the freedom and customization.

Will most people use the jailbreak for tweaks or for other purposes? I hope users continue to support the developers who make these apps. Not everyone is looking to avoid paying for content.

Have some faith in people. I want the JB for the tweaks, not for the apps. If I want an app, I pay for it to support the people who make this. Not everyone uses jailbreaking for piracy.

True, Saying that 99.5% of ppl use JB for priating apps means 99.5% of people are have no faith , which is damn stupid. If u r using tools for devil's purposes dont suspect all the universe and include them in your world!
