can someone explain why people need this? i've bought a bunch of second hand 3GS's (to use as unlocked travel phones), and since they are over 2 years beyond the initial contract they can all be unlocked at the cell provider.
phones that are out of contract should always be able to be unlocked since your initial tie to that company is over.
please someone motivate why this is neccessary. thx.

Those who have flashed iPad Baseband, doesn't have GPS capability..
If you are unlocked, to get back GPS.
Also not all iPhones are unlocked.
