Qantas Airline Will Provide Each B767 Passenger With an iPad for In-Flight Use

Qantas, an Australian airline, has announced that it will equip its B767 fleet with iPads for each passenger following a successful trial earlier this year.

Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi said customers travelling on Qantas' B767 aircraft will now enjoy in-flight entertainment (IFE) streamed direct to iPads in every seat.

"Following the successful trial of our QStreaming service this year, we will partner with Panasonic and use their eXW solution to provide over 200 hours of on-demand IFE content via iPads to every passenger in Business and Economy travelling on our B767 fleet," said Mr Strambi.

"Our customers were the first in the world to experience the ground-breaking wi-fi entertainment technology and we received great feedback from our customers during the trial this year. QStreaming will be available free of charge to all our passengers across the B767 fleet. We're now looking at ways to evolve this technology platform even further with our partner Panasonic to bring new standards of in-flight entertainment to our customers."

The first aircraft is set to roll out in the fourth quarter of this year and will predominantly operate east coast routes and also across to Perth.

Curious as to how they will prevent iPads from going missing.. any Qantas passengers who have already used the service care to chime in?

I've flown Virgin, with a similar plan, though they were proprietary POS tablets with pre-loaded videos and games etc. But they wanted something like $20 extra for the flight (4 hours from Fiji to Aus), so I would expect the longer the flight the higher the cost.. Bring your own device, you can select what you actually want to watch and you don't have to pay 'extra' for something that used to be included for free. cheap pricks (airlines)

..sorry I forgot to add, they simply push a cart down the isle, take your cash and mark your seat number, then they collect all devices about 30 minutes before landing. so it would be impossible to walk away with one.
