AT&T Lights Up More LTE Markets, Still Behind Verizon

AT&T today announced the addition of more LTE markets, bringing its total market count to 51. Cities announced today include Miami, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and the Worcester, MA area. They have expanded LTE in places like Baltimore, Washington DC and Massachusetts.

Verizon on the other hand expects to reach 400 markets by years end, and just lit up 33 markets last week. With the next generation iPhone surely having LTE support, it may seem that Verizon will be the better choice. However, since Verizon's 3G network is much slower than AT&T's '3G/4G' network, Verizon must roll out LTE at a fast pace in order to keep up. With congestion, LTE speeds can sometimes run at the same speed as AT&T's HSPA+ network. AT&T simply can't roll LTE out to the entire nation with its lack of 700mhz spectrum unless it begins to shut down its EDGE network, so in rural areas, Verizon has the clear advantage.
