Apple has officially released macOS Tahoe 26.2, adding a new lighting tool for video calls and refinements to several built-in apps. The update follows the Release Candidate seeded last week and arrives alongside new software for iPhone and iPad.
A headline feature in this update is Edge Light, a video effect that uses the Mac's display to illuminate your face like a virtual ring light during calls in dim settings. You can adjust the width and color temperature of the light, and a "mouse awareness" setting makes the glow recede when you move the cursor near the edge. On Macs introduced in 2024 and later, Edge Light can turn on automatically in low light.
Several core apps also get notable upgrades:
Podcasts now supports automatically generated chapters, making it easier to move through long episodes. The player and transcript view also show links to podcasts mentioned in a show, so you can find and follow them with a tap.
Apple News gains sidebar links to popular sections like Sports, Business, Politics, and Food for easier browsing.
Apple Music places your Favorite Songs playlist in the Top Picks area on the Home tab.
For creators and organizers, Freeform now lets tables hold text, images, documents, and drawings, with cells that resize to fit the content.
File sharing gets a security boost with AirDrop codes. When sending files to someone not in your contacts, a verification code appears on the receiver's device that the sender must enter to complete the transfer.
Gamers also see improvements. The Games library now offers filters to sort by category, size, and more. During supported titles, challenge score banners appear in real time to show when someone new takes the lead. There is also better support for connected controllers.
This update fixes a problem that could prevent pre-release albums in your library from being playable right when they release.
You can download the update by going to System Settings > General > Software Update.
