To the dismay of many, the iPhone 5 won't do simultaneous voice and data on Verizon or Sprint, the Verge has learned.
Unlike many of the other LTE phones in Verizon's lineup, the iPhone 5 will only be able to support Wi-Fi data while on a call. A Verizon spokesperson said, "The iPhone 5 was designed to allow customers to place a voice call on the Verizon Wireless network, while letting customers access the Internet over the WiFi."
Sprint is getting the same version iPhone 5 as Verizon so this limitation would apply to them as well.
AT&T has confirmed that their version of the iPhone 5 will support simultaneous voice and data; however, when on a call you won't get LTE data speeds.

They can not use 4G LTE data while on a call. Look it up. While using this feature it uses 1X for calls and 3G for data. So while doing this it lowers your call quality and limits your data speed. Apple could have easily put this feature into the CDMA iPhones. Who knows the chipsets they've used and the new one might even support it. The 4S used the same chipset for both Verizon and AT&T phones but voice and data still worked on AT&T but not Verizon. Guarantee Verizon is blocking it so it doesn't bog down their system because they know there's gonna be more iPhones on their network and more usage from them than from any other phone. But anyway shouldn't you be paying attention To your call if you're on one and Not be playing with your phone. I bet if u ask people that have the this feature 80% of them probably don't use it or care about it anyway. And if u need to use it, since there's so many out their now, more than likely there's a wifi network you could connect to.

Verizon and Sprint have NEVER done both voice and data at once. AT&T does, so if that's important, go with them.

This sucks. i was going to upgrade my VZW iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 just to be able to talk on the phone and browse the net since it would be on LTE..Guess ill be sticking with a 16GB this year around until next time.

Has been this way forever! This is nothing new to be able to talk and surf the web while having wifi on. I do that currently with the 4s. This was a feature I was excited about... Thanks Verizon! If it wasn't for the coverage I wouldn't be a customer.

It's been like this since the inception of CDMA implimentation of both companies. Users thought that commercials from ATT and TMobile were just smear campaigns. The more wide spread this knowledge, more customers those two companies will lose. TMobile is looking good right now since LTE is so in infancy.

Is it only the iPhone or is this a limitation with other phones on Verizon or Sprint?
