Ship times for the new iPad mini have improved to 3-5 days from 1 week. The shipping delay has been at one week since December 6th.
Hopefully we will see some improvements in ship times for other Apple products soon, especially the iMac which is still has a shipping delay of 2-3 weeks for the 21.5-inch and 3-4 weeks for the 27-inch.

Apple's artifical demand is getting really tiresome.
iPad Mini is SOOOOO much in demand for months now that they simply just can't keep up with the manufacturing. B-S!
