Apple has released a shorter 0.5m Lightning to USB cable.
This USB 2.0 cable connects your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to your computer's USB port for syncing and charging or to the Apple USB Power Adapter for convenient charging from a wall outlet.

It's not the cable. The phones hardware doesn't support USB 3. Maybe the iPhone 6 will have USB 3 support, maybe iPhone 7?

Why can't they make them like the Strachey cables that go like 10ft for 35$ I think it would be worth it in the end everyone wants longer not shorter cable... And call it the ICable lol
