A new do-it-yourself kit from iFixIt allows you to hack your new Mac mini to have 1 Terabyte of internal storage. This hack enables you to replace your mini's internal optical drive with a second hard drive. This kit does require basic soldering to connect power wires. A soldering iron, solder, and electrical tape is required, but not currently included with this kit.
Kit contents: - 2x 500 GB, 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA hard drives - 15 pin SATA power to 4 pin power cable - 6 pin SATA power and 7 pin SATA data to 4 pin power and 7 pin SATA data cable - Putty knife - #0 Phillips screwdriver
The Mac mini 1 TB Upgrade Kit costs $249.95 and is available for purchase using the link below.
The Mac Mini is a Desktop, not a laptop. So the crappy internal optical drive can go, and more storage can take its place. Then you can use your external Blue-Ray drive.
Now an even better example would be a Mac Mini Cluster, optical drives are not needed and storage is, and to minimize the footprint of the cluster and all the clutter of wires, a 2nd internal drive would be useful.
Then you might look at it that way, but it's waste of money! An external bluray costs more then your mini!!!
But it's my point of vue!! If you wanna pay around 1600$ for a mac mini, that's you're choice.
