Apple is now selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 5s in the United States via its online store.
The SIM-Free iPhone 5s is available to ship in 1-2 weeks and requires a GSM-compatible SIM.
If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible nano-SIM card separately. In the United States, you can purchase such a SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM).

I bought the Tmobile version to bring it to Brazil. Before I left the US, I put a AT&T SIM card in it and it worked; it is unlocked (note: before turning it on I took out the Tmobile SIM card)
This is getting confuse I have the previously sale version of T-mobile. I still in United states so it I don't have the opportunity to check in my country yet. Well I thought that it was unlocked with T-mobile, Any body has reliable information about this subject? I'll appreciate it folks.
Sorry. Hit send before finishing so called apple store in a mall. And they say tmobile iPhones purchased there are unlocked for international only. NOT domestic. I guess if want fully unlocked you have to buy online this model A1533
Technically, the version offered previously was the T-Mobile contract free version. This happened to be unlocked because T-Mobile allowed it to be; however, it was not guaranteed to be.
