South Korea's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) has announced that it will invest $1.5 billion to develop a 5G technology 1,000 times faster than 4G LTE. The network will be fast enough to download a 800MB file in one second, reports Mashable.
MEST plans to roll out a trial 5G service by 2017 and have a commercial service available by 2020. In addition to developing the 5G network itself, MEST will prioritize developing new, key features for 5G, including Ultra-HD streaming, hologram transmission and upgraded social networking services.
South Korea estimates that sales for related industries could reach $310 billion from 2020 to 2026. MEST wants to implement its plan with help from operators like SK Telecom and Korea Telecom; as well as companies such as Samsung and LG.
In May 2013, Samsung announced that it successfully developed a core technology for 5G which would let users can download and upload data at speeds of up to tens of gigabits per second (Gbps), compared to 75 megabits per second (Mbps) for LTE.
You people are only looking at phones. This is bigger then phones. 5g could eliminate the cable running to your home. Cable boxes could do more and faster at 5g wireless. There is so many things to look forward to with the multitude of device on 5g
OK then, let me generalize my earlier comment... "no matter how fast they developed it, they still have to wait for Apple to produce a product that can actually use it for everyday use."
Yeah, look how the fart gear watch came out, and trolls love to support themselves all they want, but doing it on an apple site will make us sound 2x smart because they don't even understand what is posted here.
y do ppl think the faster is always better? burning through gasoline in your car doesnt always mean its better? why dont they increase the phones stock capacity to one terabyte? then it would make sense to have a speed to fill it up; they are going about it all wrong
