Microsoft Ad Says iPod Costs $30,000 to Fill

A new ad from Microsoft says while an iPod will cost you $30,000 to fill a Zune can be filled much cheaper.

The ad highlights Micosoft's $14.99/month unlimited downloads plan which lets you download as many songs as you like but only own 10 free per month.

I like to keep my music, thanks. If this ad even catches a persons attention, I'm pretty sure they'll be shocked when they find out how much they can DL, and how they get to keep nothing when their subscription is up.

Who cares? You don't have to download all your music from iTunes. If you subscribe to Zune, in 5-6 years you would have spent $30,000.

Um, someone needs to go take a remedial mathematics class. At 14.99 per month, it would take 2,001 years to spend $30,000. I'd never buy a Zune, I am very happy with my iPhone and iPod products, but it's an effective ad that drives home the point that most "honest" people, who aren't gong to pirate via Limewire or TPB, would be better served financially with some sort of subscription model in iTunes. Especially those who don't already have a large music collection to begin with.

D'oh! That's 2001 months, not years. Still more than a couple of lifetimes to spend $30,000 at the rate of $15/month.

With 10 songs per month, how long does it take to fill your Zune with music? not to mention $14.95/month means $1.49 per song with an average of 20% increase over iTunes music. This means for the same capacity you will need to spend $36,000 to fill a Zune!!! For me it is what I can keep. Music is about keeping. Again, MS keep twisting the numbers and facts for their own benefit just like they have been twisting people minds in thinking that Windows problems are a figment of their imagination.

Well besides the file sharing apps (ex. limewire/frostwire), I don't think anyone has completely filled their iPods with nothing but music. I have a 160GB iPod Classic that I love, I have a couple movies (maybe 5-7GB), some songs (about 2GB), and a lot of my TV shows (more than 100GB). But you know what, it's all worth it, plus I don't think the Zune can hold that many GB which is another advantage the iPod has over the Zune.
