Samsung Attorney: Apple is 'Not Going to Slow Android Down by Suing People'

Samsung attorney John Quinn spoke out against Apple in a recent interview with CNET saying that the verdict in the latest Apple vs. Samsung trial 'has got to be the last straw'.

Quinn says Apple won't see a dime from the most recent judgement and the company will soon have to end its lawsuits because it hasn't been able to shift market demand away from Android smartphones.


"Up to this point, I think Apple really hadn't given up hope [it] could cripple Android somehow," said Quinn. "This has got to be the last straw. They've got to realize they're not going to slow Android down by suing people."

Quinn is a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, a firm that represents Samsung, Google, and other Android handset makers.

"They (Apple) have nothing to show for the hundreds of million of dollars they've spent," Quinn said. "I'm sure they're looking for a graceful exit. ... I'm pretty sure the Apple smartphone wars against Android are a thing with a limited future."

A jury recent awarded Apple $119.6 million for Samsung's infringement on two of its patents; however, that was far less than the $2.2 billion Apple was asking for. The company was also found to have infringed on one Samsung patent and ordered to pay $158,400 in damages.


Quinn also notes that they view the decision in the most recent trial as a win for Samsung.

"We do regard it as a win," Quinn said. "Years into Apple's holy war on Android, they haven't collected a nickel."

Apple issued the following statement on the verdict: “We are grateful to the jury and the court for their service. Today’s ruling reinforces what courts around the world have already found: That Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products. We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers.”
