A new report may reveal why AT&T is unable to support iPhone MMS until late summer.
According to a BoyGeniusReport, they have learned the real reason why AT&T is unable to support iPhone MMS at launch. Technically their network is fully ready with no extra plans or higher fees (the unlimited $20 package covers unlimited SMS and MMS); the reason its not functional is because AT&T has to manually remove all the Opt Out MMS codes on each account.
BoyGeniusReport suggests it might be possible to remove the Opt Out MMS code, and MMS will work with the final OS 3.0 build right away.
In regards to tethering its rumored that AT&T will block this by launch; however, a $70/mo unlimited data and tethering plan not including SMS and MMS is in the works.
AT&T better get with the damn program and make sure that MMS is available for the iPhone 3.0 release on June 17. They've known about this for longer than we have, so they've had plenty of time to prepare. I'll be pissed if I can't use MMS when 3.0 is released, and I'll be one of the first to call in and bitch to AT&T about it.
i TOTALLY agree! it's bull crap that they are trying to feed everyone! they've known about this for MORE than enough time to have already started prepping this crap at least! i think eventually Apple will realize what a huge mistake they made by choosing AT&T as their carrier! it's odd that every other carrier in the world has working MMS with the Gold Master release that was seeded to the Dev's yesterday! INSANE!!
