Apple will release the 5.5-inch iPhone several months after the 4.7-inch model to avoid competition between models, not because of poor yields rates, says DigiTimes.
The different timetables have been set as Apple does not want to repeat the mistake it made in 2013 when it launched the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c simultaneously, said the sources. Yield rates have not been an issue for the large-size iPhone, as well as for the speculated iWatch, and therefore, member companies of the current iPhone supply chain will remain unaffected, the sources asserted.
Yesterday, it was reported that Apple is targeting a mid-September unveiling of the iPhone 6. It's currently unclear when and if the company plans to unveil a 5.5-inch device.
If they stagger the releases, they'll have the opposite problem. The problem with the 5s and 5c was that no one wanted the inferior (but cheaper) 5c. Release a smaller 6 will result in lower sales as everyone waits to see what features the larger size will have.
If they released both at the same time, users could compare the two models side by side to which which they preferred.
Personally, I'd prefer the smaller size (to fit in a mens shirt pocket), but most of the new features (better camera) are on the larger size model.
Actually it's a smart move! maybe not for you but for Apple it's a cash move because people won't be able to hold themselves and will buy the 6 and when the 6 Pro will come out they will straggle selling the 6 to buy the Pro, Apple Wins!
"Yesterday, it was reported that Apple is targeting a mid-September unveiling of the iPhone 6. It's currently unclear when and if the company plans to unveil a 5.5-inch device." Will the 5.5" device be an iPhone 6 also? Hope you understand why I asked.
If they release the 5.5 after the 4.7 it'll piss people off that bought the 4.7 but still wanted a bigger screen, it would be stupid for them to stagger them for this reason.
Unless carriers do a tmobile test drive or just try out the 4.7" before getting the 5.5" for themselves to make sure if they really do wanna wait or not.
