The AT&T (Beta) doesn't work on my iPhone 3G which I manually sync every couple of weeks via iTunes 9.1 (79) via my MacBook Pro running Mac OS X "Snow Leopard" 10.6.3 ERROR MESSAGE (below): Invalid Profile Profile format not recognized OK Please let us know when this works again since my BIGGEST disappointment with the iPhone is no tethering... so I keep my "vintage" Palm Treo 700p on my wife's Sprint account fo r$10 a month for unlimited tethering via USBmodem (Mac) and PDAnet (WinXP Pro)... works GREAT and NO GOOD REASON AT&T CAN'T PROVIDE THIS other than their network couldn't handle the load.

It says "contact ATT for tethering on this phone".I have an unlocked 3G with 3.1.2 and unlimited txt only no DATA Plan from ATT. Whats missing??

Tried this today. The profile installs fine. However, I don't get the Internet Tethering option under Network.

I used this method earlier today, and i have the ATT Unlimited Data Plan. I also have a app that shows how many minutes ive used etc. well Until after i installed this app it said pay per internet use right about my data plan, and it acknowledged 0.3mb from where i did a speedtest with my laptop. So im kinda etchy on this, also i heard that ATT is supposedly releasing a update sept 25 for mms, so i have no idea. All i know is the Internet Pay Per Use wasnt there until after i did that and did a speedtest. Im not trying to piss anyone off or anything i just dont want someone to have a crazy bill.

I have followed the instructions and it works great on my two friend's non-jailbroken 3GS iPhones. However, I only get "Local Access" when trying to tether on my Windows Vista machine. Has anybody jailbroken their iPhone a otten the tethering to work or know why I may be having trouble? I followed the jailbreak tutorial on this site.

must have itunes o rphone ethernet network drivers installed on your computer first or else it wont work! It works with ATT usa.

I tried it. It actually installed it but it wont connect to the internet . It tell you to contact Tmobile to turn on that option so I was like ok forget that. For that set up its easy only takes few minutes.

Working (almost) fine in Chile with Movistar, but only through cable. Couldn't make it work ussing bluetooth (with a PC). Only issue, when i tried to turn tethering off, it wont. Tried also turning on/off the flight mode, nothing happened. Only solution was powering off/on the iphone. Any one experiencing this problem also?. IT worked for me amazing but my friend did a reset to my phone and now it wont give me the option to tether... Does anyone know how I can get it back

I downloaded successfuly I'm in the U.S and I use ATT. and have unlimited data (internet) usage and I'm on an iPhone 3G with the 3.0 running on it..now If I use it with my laptop would I get charged like a million dollars a minute of usage? does anybody know? Haven't used it. but would like to try, but don't wanna be stuck with a trillion dollar bill....please help!!! lol :-)

No It doesn't have to be jailbroken in order to download it. I did it on my 3G version 3.0 and worked great! :-)

Works great on my 3G with 3.0 on the Austrian Orange network! Does anyone know yet whether the data usage comes off of the iPhone package 3GB or is billed extra? And: I plan on jailbreaking and unlocking (both for the first time) when this becomes available in order to be able to use a prepaid SIM on my trip to the US. Will the tethering still work or will I have to re-enable it? THANK YOU!!!

Yeah, for some reason, it looks like my MMS is active now... but it doesn't look like it sends pictures, instead showing an "!" in red next to the photo after sending...

i've just tried this and by all accounts it seems to work. I have no idea of the billing implications as I don't have the 'tethering bolt on package' from 02. What i'm interested to know and I guess it will take people cleverer than I to work out is if when tethered the iphone will always the iphone always use the 3g / edge network or will it use the wifi network assuming its connected. The reason I ask this is that in the UK you get 'free hot spot access' on the iphone with the monthly contract. I haven't worked out how to port my settings to use them on my laptop for free - so If there was a way to get the iphone to connect to a hotspot for free and use tethering to link this to my laptop than I'd be quids in.... i'm not overly bothered about tethering via the mobile phone network as it's not the quickest and without the tethering bolt on package I suspect it will be rather costly for me... hey which settings did u select the o2 contract one or the vertigo one? I looked on the phone and selected the vertigo one!!! cuz it starts wid idata..

When I added T-Mobile UK and tapped 'set-up tethering' I got a blue box saying it had to be enabled by the carrier!

Doesn't work on the 2G, although they should have allowed it, tethering could even from such a slow source can be handy in an emergency.

i have a 3g phone but no 3g signal at home, where I am now... I can confirm that tethering does work over edge... any yes it is VERY slow :-)

no, will not work with 2g iphone. you can jailbreak and use pdaNet.

The official Apple documentation states that tethering doesn't work on the 2G. Has anyone succeeded?

It's working great for me. I was having some issues with tethering over Bluetooth, but I didn't spend enough time on it. Wired tethering is more reliable anyways! I did notice that when I went to my settings, it first had said, "Set up Internet Tethering" until a second or so later, it said "Internet Tethering" where I could then turn it on. Beautiful! I wonder - can AT&T know that you're tethering, or do they only see you're sending and receiving information - as if you're just browsing on the phone?

sorry can I just ask since on the UK O2 site it informs me I must buy a bolt on first, does this method make it free to tether or am I still going to be charged while using the web on my mbook?

I can successfully download the profile for O2 in Ireland but when I go to the settings to enable tethering i get the following message: "Set up internet Tethering: to enable tethering on his account contact O2"

hi guys, is anyone having a problem with bluetooth, my phone sees the laptop and the laptop sees the phone but the phone just will not connect to the laptop or my head set which it used to connect to, i can get the usb tethering to work cheers

Anyone know how to uninstall this? With the 3.01 update this no longer works. I tried restoring my phone, but the tethering option still shows up under settings.
