Apple is set to launch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders tonight at 12:01 AM PST.
Typically pre-orders sell out in minutes so if you want to grab one of the first units, it's probably a good idea to wait up.
AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon, and T-Mobile are also taking pre-orders via their websites. Many retailers will also start taking pre-orders tomorrow; however, times may vary.

Notably, it appears that Apple may offer Personal Pickup availability with pre-orders this year. Meaning, you'll be able to pre-order an iPhone 6 and choose a local store to pick it up at on launch day.
9to5Mac says, "We’ve independently confirmed this news with several Apple Stores and Apple’s online chat. The option to pickup an iPhone in store will be available during the checkout process and Apple will have a second line for Personal Pickup at each store on Sept. 19, 2014."

No email from ATT yet completed order around 3:25am est. Bank shows 1.00 transaction though, no indication on delivery dates etc...

I used the Apple Store app on my ipad. I ordered a 128GB Silver 4.7" model for AT&T. The app kept giving me an error message once I chose the model. I kept hitting continue and it slowly allowed me to advance through the various ordering screens (with an error message at each step). I kept at it for about 10 minutes and was finally able to complete my order. I got the confirmation email at 3:32 est. It shows a delivery date of 9/19.

I got through quicker on the iPhone app over the iPad app Go figure ! Still no sales yet on unlocks the main site is down for that ! I guess carriers privilege

I took x me 20 min to get an email confirmation, (as long you got an order confirmation at the end of the purchase you good to go) it might be taking longer if they overload.
Again my 6 gray 64 delivery date is 14days at least according with my email.
