Apple is in early talks with labels to lower the price of its Beats Music subscription service, reports Re/code.
Sources say Apple is talking to the big music labels about a new set of rights and features it would like to include in a revamped version of the Beats Music service it bought earlier this year. Among the things Apple wants is a new pricing structure that would allow it to sell the service for less than the $10 level it’s at now.
Discussions are in the early stages as Apple's isn't planning to overhaul Beats Music until sometime next year.
Getting labels to lower their pricing will likely be a difficult task. Initially, they resisted the idea of music subscriptions because they were worried that it would cut into download and CD sales; however, they eventually allowed service such as Rhapsody, Spotify, and others to offer all you can stream for $10/month. Some industry analysts believe that $10/month is too high a price since few people spent that much on music during the CD era.
