In spite of all the hype, I've refrained so far from acquiring this device what with all the overheating and discoloration reports. Is that true? Anybody?

I have owned mine for a month now and have had absolutely no problems... Honestly I think it's a major improvement over the 3G; speed is way up, video is impressive, not just the recorder but the video playback you can get. Video games are 3D now and run super smooth; the RAM and processor are beefier. Just jailbroke as well and I am glad I jumped on this one. It's the best phone I have owned, I have had 6 other iPhones through my hands and I'm holding onto this one!

I would definitely recommend getting the phone. It is a great improvement performance wise over the original 3G. It is fast and menus move smoothly.
Only a few have had overheating problems and this is widely reported, causing everyone to think it's a common occurrence on all devices. Using the iPhone is such a pleasure you probably use it all the time causing it to heat up. After all, it's a computer stashed into a small container. I had overheating on my original 2G phone when I upgraded to the 3.0 software, but after resetting all settings and a reboot it's been cool running ever since.
I have all three versions of the iPhone all running 3.0 and they are fine. Just jailbreak the 3GS and it runs excellently.
