You needed to be online to play it, and EA Games claimed that there were technical reasons why it couldn't be played offline, but it was later proven that the game was capable of running offline.

Didn't the latest sim city fail? Like multiplayer network issues, game bugs etc? Did they fix it? Somehow whatever games EA manages, they manage to mess it up.
