Research in Motion is planning on integrating full Flash and Microsoft Silverlight support into the BlackBerry web browser, according to the BoyGeniusReport.
The site has been told that the update won't take place until next summer since RIM needs to upgrade their devices and have access to higher data speeds.
The iPhone's lack of Flash support has been considered a major shortcoming. In January, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen said that Apple and Adobe are collaborating on a version of Flash for the iPhone; however, nothing has materialized.
Blackberry should just try and get basic HTML and CSS working first. I was "surfing" the web on my brother-in-laws Blackberry the other day and is was brutal... Mostly text and lots of pages were outright broken. He just got his Blackberry a few months ago. Obviously there is only limited support for web standards at this point.
Apple is probably going to make that the highlight of the next iPhone, and I'm betting it will only be available on the new hardware (look what they did with video). It's all about trying to force people to buy your newest product when it comes out.
