Irregular Apple Watch Heart Rate Tracking is Intentional

Posted May 31, 2015 at 12:44am by iClarified
Apple has updated its support document on Apple Watch heart rate tracking to reveal that the irregular tracking recently reported by users is intentional.

In version 1.0 of the Apple Watch software the device would measure your heart rate every 10 minutes. Following an update to version 1.0.1, users noticed that their heart rate would be tracked at irregular intervals.

An updated support document explains why this is happening:

Apple Watch attempts to measure your heart rate every 10 minutes, but won't record it when you're in motion or your arm is moving.

It's unclear why Apple has made the decision to abandon a heart rate check when you're in motion. If regular checks are important to you, one way to accomplish this is by starting a workout in the Workout app. This will cause the watch to record your heart rate at ten second intervals.

The reason is only medical, nothing else. Rest heart rate is intended to be measured while resting. Any other way you you get a wrong reading and a wrong average. Nothing to do with faulty reading. That is sure because while exercising the measures are accurate and you are moving. So it was wrong before. Now is correct.

The only reason Apple watch read the rate bad was because the arm moves. Didn't you read the article here? At Apple, you release things to explain anything that is a simple fix to a solution! You clearly knew what you were doing and it works! LAWL

It's because getting your heart rate on your wrist is not reliable. It's the dirty secret in the industry. It's hard. The watch needs to be tight on the wrist and still to get an accurate reading or even a reading at all. I know while in motion it's harder to get a reading so it's just wasting the battery life. Actually they should call smart watches dumb watches because a lot are crippled to save battery life just like our smart phones which we disable functions just so it can last until lunch so we can charge it again. Battery tech is a big problem across all industries.

I use the secret port and Ampy, the motion powered charger to keep battery life charged while never taking the watch off, so to me, I am never left dead in any time of day on every Apple product I own that I use everyday: MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and apple watch.

Fitbit is outdated fitshit. Buy the Apple watch. One little faulty reading is a long shot from stopping it.
