Google has opened pre-orders for the new Google Home Speaker. Priced at $99.99, it is the company's first audio device built around its Gemini AI platform. The speaker introduces a new conversational voice assistant called Gemini for Home that can handle multi-step requests, complex reasoning, and mid-sentence corrections.
The Home Speaker can follow logic-based commands like "turn off all the lights except for my bedside lamp" and tackle several tasks at once — for example, "dim the kitchen lights, play some relaxing music, and set a timer for 20 minutes." Users can correct themselves on the fly, too; saying "turn off the coffee maker… I meant turn it on!" will work. Gemini can also reason through more complex questions, such as determining the weather forecast for an upcoming baseball game by figuring out when and where the game will take place. Ten new expressive voices ship with the device, and Gemini can maintain conversational context across follow-up questions. Continued Conversation mode keeps the microphone active briefly after a response so users can continue talking without repeating the wake word.
Not every AI capability is free. Google is introducing Home Premium, a subscription that starts at $10 per month (or $100 annually) for a Standard tier. It unlocks Gemini Live for free-flowing two-way conversations, the "Help me create" feature for building smart home automations using natural language, and sound detection. A higher-tier Advanced plan at $20 per month adds camera history search for connected Nest cameras and daily summaries called Home Briefs. All new Home Speaker purchases include a six-month trial of the Standard tier.
The speaker features a compact rounded design wrapped in a custom 3D-knit fabric and is available in Hazel, Porcelain, and two U.S.-exclusive colors — Jade and Berry. A new light ring underglow softly communicates when the speaker is listening, thinking, or responding, and a physical mute toggle is included for privacy. The speaker delivers balanced 360-degree sound and can pair with a Google TV Streamer to create spatial surround sound for a mini home theater setup.
The Google Home Speaker is available for pre-order beginning today through the Google Store and will begin shipping on June 25.
The launch comes as Apple continues to face delays bringing a more capable AI-powered smart home device to market. A planned smart home display was pushed back until later this year amid the company's broader Siri AI challenges.
