Google Announces Android M is 'Android Marshmallow' [Video]

Google has announced that its next generation Android M software is officially called Android Marshmallow.

Since the launch of the M Developer Preview at Google I/O in May, we’ve enjoyed all of your participation and feedback. Today with the final Developer Preview update, we're introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow.

The final Android 6.0 SDK is now available to download and developers are being encouraged to get their apps ready. Although the Android 6.0 SDK is final, the devices system images are still developer preview versions.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow launches to the public later this fall and it will compete with iOS 9 which Apple is expected to release alongside the iPhone 6s next month. Click here to learn more about Android M and iOS 9.

Haven't you heard about the rootless OS being worked on by Apple? It'll blow Google's feeble attempt out of the water. And 80%???? It's that missing 20% that'll keep chrome books from ever being viable as a platform that can come anywhere near competing with a MacBook. And it's free Wi-Fi you speak of? Xfinity is doing the same thing. Do you know how they do it? They force you as a user to be a mule for their hotspot. Your router automatically has an Xfinity Wi-Fi network on it that anyone can sign into that has a Comcast/Xfinity account. Personally, I remove the RF module from my two in one, and just hooked it up as a modem to my router with DD-WRT (for security purposes). I've said it in this same forum, and I'll say it again. Security is 99% the users responsibility. When it comes to OS selection...functionality should be what is the main factor in the decision. That's why I use Apple products. Functionality. I can manage my own security, and just because you or whomever is either not educated enough or too unwilling to learn how to keep their machine and network secure, you rely on such things to help you along. Your fault...no one else's.

It's mainly about Apple, but sometimes it has something Apple related.

To compete with iOS 9? Maybe with iOS 10 or 11. Lol. It takes a long time for competing devices to get updated with the new OS. Hahaha

I wonder if Android Marshmallow will improve on security, as some previous versions have had issues.

you think iphone has the best security? then you wouldn't have any jailbreaks. i have friends who has jail-broken iphones it does sometime random crashes that is why there is updates constantly to improve security and bugs but, people will find another way to the backdoor and exploit it. I'm not android fan its base on my preference and i do own both products. apple is not only company selling smart phones, computers, ipad/tablet etc... try compare prices and whats inside whats running and you see how much you can save money before throwing your money.

Apple has better security because it patches and sends out patches to its devices much faster and more effectively and efficiently than Android phones. So if you have 2 devices and if both are equal to begin with in terms of security holes, then the one that gets patched quicker and more often will likely be safer.
