Orbicule has released Macnification 1.6, a major update to its Apple Design Award winning microscopy application. Macnification enables scientists to organize, analyze, adjust, visualize and compare microscopic images. In addition to adding support for Snow Leopard, Macnification now runs as a 64-bit application on all supported Macs. It is one of the first scientific applications to take advantage of Grand Central Dispatch, Apple's new technology for leveraging multi-core Macs.
New and updated features in version 1.6 include: * Full 64-bit support * Performance-critical operations take advantage of Grand Central Dispatch * Vastly improved full-screen view for image analysis * Numerous bug fixes and improvements throughout
Macnification has been built from the ground up for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. The app takes advantage of Core Animation to offer scientists a stunning way to visualize image stacks and to make virtual cuts through them. It also leverages Core Image to offer the fastest Extended Depth of Focus (EFI) algorithm on any platform.
In addition, Macnification integrates tightly with Quick Look, Spotlight, Time Machine, Core Data, ImageKit, QuickTime, and many other Mac OS X technologies. It takes full advantage of multiple processor cores. The entire Macnification workflow is non-destructive: the original image is never touched when applying adjustments or when adding a scale bar or ROIs.
Availability and Pricing: A fully functional 30-day trial version is available and the full version can be purchased from the Orbicule online store. Prices start at $149 (USD) for an academic license. Student licenses are available for $79. The Macnification website contains a detailed list of features. It also provides prospective users with demonstration movies, outlining Macnification's highlights and workflow.
