Mac Mini Colo has posted a teardown comparison of the new Mac Mini and the new Mac Mini Server.
Right now, about 70% of our customers stick with the standard install of OS X on their servers. I think there is still a market for this as some uses don't require OS X Server. That said, this new server will really speed the adoption of Snow Leopard Server. More people will be using it as the backend for the business, which will lead to faster adoption of iPhones and Macs for their employees. I think that is the long term goal of this release. This also explains the recently announced Snow Leopard Server Tour.
We have hundreds of optical drives in our data center that have never been used once. The second hard drive is a much better use for the space when it comes to a server
The teardown reveals that very little has changed in the Mac Mini. The server version simply sits the second hard drive exactly where the optical used to sit.
