A growing number of users are complaining about the paint on their matte black iPhone 7 chipping.
In a thread on Apple's support forums, user Phirsisch writes:
The paint at the back of the iPhone started to chip off very heavily. First there were some bubbles building up and then when I put the iPhone on a table the paint chipped off completely. I was at an Apple Store complaining about it but they didn't know how to classify my case so I didn't get a new phone for free. But the Apple Support hotline helped me out and asked me to send pictures of my phone. These pictures now have been sent to the engineers in California and I'm waiting for feedback...
A number of users have begun posting photos of their chipped iPhones. It appears as though the bottom speaker grille area, edges, and back are the most common locations paint chipping occurs. For now, Apple is refusing to repair devices under warranty as it is being categorized as cosmetic damage.
Does your matte black iPhone 7 have any paint chips? Let us know in the comments...

I have a 7 Plus Black and stuck one of those full body skins on it (transparent of course) right out of the box, so no dust or grime under it. Still looks like new. And o yeah, get yourself an otter box or some rugged case. Case closed! (Pun intended :) )

Here's an idea. Get a case. Don't drop it. Don't put it in your purse with inner pockets with zippers and keys and change and pens and your sunglasses and your little wallet thingies that also have zippers on them.

I am using an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus since launch week and have not had a single complaint about the paint or the finish. I wonder if fingernails could be the primary cause of these marks.

For real. Probably always tapping her nails on it and picking at it all the time.

Mine still looks like new. I've had it 2 months now. Few small scratches, from dropping it a couple times, but no issues at all.

That's true, specially at the bottom of the phone near the lightning port, this is my first time I have such an issue with Apple product and at Apple Store they told me it's aesthetic , so it's not covered by warranty

Have you considered getting a case? Slap it on and the problem is solved. #iphoneProblems. If a case was used and there is still a problem, then that is unfortunate. #EasyFix #PhoneProblems

Even with a case this is still happening. Allegedly.

It is true, I have seen couple persons with this issue so far. The first time I saw this issue I just blamed the person but then I encountered couple more incidents with the same issues. Protecting your iPhone with a choice of your case and screen guard is really recommended yet not every iPhone is made perfect, sometimes some defects could be by manufacturing.

iPhone 7 is a dream come true. I'm glad I have a jet black. My iRoller can deal with finger prints.
