Google is now offering twice as much Gmail storage for a quarter of the old price. You can now buy 20 GB for only $5 a year. If you need more than 20 GB, you can purchase up to 16 terabytes!
This extra storage acts as an overflow that you only start using when you reach the limit of your free storage, and is shared for use between Gmail and Picasa Web Albums.
In comparison MobileMe offers 20GB of storage included in its $99 yearly fee. Google will give you 400GB for $100.
MobileMe offers a lot more than just email/disk storage for the iPhone/Mac user: Find My phone, multiple email addresses, SEAMLESS push syncing to all your devices of not just contacts and calendars, but keychains, preferences, bookmarks, notes, 3rd party application preferences, widgets, dock items, and mail accounts from any server, not just Google.
Also, MobileMe doesn't require that you allow Apple to scan your emails for keywords so that they can track your personal business and build a profile of you to sell to advertisers.
With that in mind, the price comparison isn't relevant unless Google offers the same features or features you can't get.
Google's an incredible deal, and you find MobileMe to be of value at its current pricing or not, but it's not an apples to apples comparison of the services.
Google offers 99% of what mobileme offers for FREE. Sync contacts, emails, calenders, storage, sync via 3g, no need to plug it in. more than 90% of the people i know that used mobileme before all switched to gmail for free with the same functionality.
Thanks Apple Mobileme but GMAIL is wayyyyyyy better and free.
obviously that test did not prove anything because you talk about Google not knowing all its features. Let's mention also Google Voice something Apple will never have.
Maybe it was written specially for you I do not know.
@Bobby - don't be a troll. How old are you, 14? What does Google Voice have to do with anything? Guess what, I can have both MobileMe AND Google Voice. They're not mutually exclusive, really, they aren't. I really can have both,; amazing concept, isn't it? And you know what? I do have BOTH! Wow! Pretty smart of me, huh? Tough concept to comprehend if you're so blinded by your hatred of MobileMe because you're too cheap or poor to buy it that you just refuse to see any good in it. I don't care if you use MobileMe or not. Don't want it, don't buy it, don't buy it; but don't be an Internet troll hiding behind your keyboard calling names without some logic behind your posts. I am not trying to persuade anyone to use one or the other, use both products if you can, they both ad value. All I was pointing out was that the original article's price comparison of MobileMe vs Gmail's online disk storage space saying $100 got you 20gb vs 400gb was not a valid price comparison, since the pricing of MobileMe contains numerous features that you cannot get as a single, Mac-friendly, all-in-one package from Google. Gmail does not offer any of the 8 or so features I listed, whether you pay $100 or not. You can't dispute that. Seriously, you can't. Don't bother trying. If you don't find MobileME of value, don't get it; no one is forcing you to, but it's inaccurate to call someone stupid because they find value in it. Additionally, MobileMe is not $100 if you're an intelligent shopper. You can always grab a discounted price on it on Amazon.com ($60 or so last time I looked), and Apple will always give you a 30% discount for however many years you want to buy in advance when you purchase a new computer from them.
