Nokia Alleges That Most Apple Products Infrige on its Patents

Nokia announced it has today filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes Nokia patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers.

The seven Nokia patents in this complaint relate to Nokia's pioneering innovations that are now being used by Apple to create key features in its products in the area of user interface, as well as camera, antenna and power management technologies. These patented technologies are important to Nokia's success as they allow better user experience, lower manufacturing costs, smaller size and longer battery life for Nokia products.

"Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices" said Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia. "This action is about protecting the results of such pioneering development. While our litigation in Delaware is about Apple's attempt to free-ride on the back of Nokia investment in wireless standards, the ITC case filed today is about Apple's practice of building its business on Nokia's proprietary innovation."

At the end of October Nokia sued Apple alleging that Apple's iPhone infringes Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards. Apple responded by counter suing Nokia.

@H, Are you stupid or are you just pretending? Either way, you it's working. Apple stole the technology pure and simple. Just because Nokia did not "do" something with it is not a free license for Apple to "borrow" it. Here's an idea. Take both hands and try to find a clue moron. Also, ever hear of complete, coherent sentences? What an idiot.

yes it is right for nokia to claim what's rightfully theirs and there's nothing wrong with that. but look what apple is doing. apple is countersuing nokia. this ain't just patent infringement. this is more like a fight and nokia started it. OR... you can say apple started it for using nokia's technology which forced nokia to use apple's technology but nokia is suing anyway because apple made more money. which means, nokia is mad and i'm losing respect for them. good job nokia. thank god the iphone replaced your n-series reign.

hey at least now you know nokia is VERY interested in apple products. sucks they couldn't use their own technology and do better. kind of sad ain't it? now they're mad. sounds like nokia is trying to ride off apple. obviously this is millions of dollars in free money so why not right? now they know how to use their technology better.
