Apple's One More Thing - iPhone 4G, OS 4.0, on Verizon?

Posted January 20, 2010 at 3:11pm by iClarified
Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek believes there is "a good chance" that Apple's "One More Thing" announcement will be the iPhone 4G, running OS 4.0, on Verizon.

“Together with our semi-conductor partners, we have ascertained that there is a reasonable chance the Asian supply chain is prepping for mass production of a new iPhone in March, for availability in late Q2, likely June,” Misek wrote in a note to clients today. “The phone will be carried on Verizon and hence will operate on the CDMA network; however, it will also support European GSM and HSPA standards. An updated 4GS version that will support LTE is anticipated to arrive in June 2011. At this moment, we have not heard about the pricing of the device, but believe it will be different from what it is at the moment. While we remain of the view that tiered data plans are imminent, our checks indicate the new iPhone from Verizon will still come with an unlimited data plan.”

It seems unlikely to us that Apple would unveil both a brand new tablet device as well as a brand new iPhone at the same event. Earlier rumors point to the announcement of only iPhone OS 4.0. This seems more credible as Apple will need applications developed for the tablet and will not want anything to steal the device's thunder.

It wouldn't surprise me if only the tablet was verizon capable. Heck, if you have an iphone too just tether the thing when wifi isn't available.

After all the ballyhoo about the App store and the negative Apple press in the latter part of 2009, Apple will want to come out with a mind-blowing event, to show the world what the company is really about. I think an announcement of both the iPhone and tablet isn't far-fetched. Apple needs all the positive press it can get right now. Both devices will be must-haves for the Apple savvy. You need the iPhone to carry around as a phone, and you need the tablet as a laptop replacement device. So, no, there shall be no stealing of thunder from either. Developers who want to capitalize on the opportunity afforded by either device will still do so, irrespective of the presence of the other.

Well if its true... Verizon has already sold 2 to me. So that would be like 1,000,002 sales the first day right there.

Great!!!! There goes verizons network. All of those people that left verizon for the iPhone is now going to come back and hog the traffic. AT&T network will get better while verizons gets clogged.

No new applications are needed if the tablet is a new MacBook using Iphone display technology.

Its not a MacBook it runs OS 4.0. But your still right no new Apps are needed since Apple gave the Developers a tool to make apps resizable for the tablet.

Still wanting to know how they are going to do voice and data simultaneously. Kinda required for video conferencing.

You can do it now... Put it on speaker and press the home button then feel free to go to what ever app you want.

Not if the iPhone is on verizon. You will be able to put call on speaker but will be unable to open any app that requires data. A message will prompt to hang up the call if wanting to access data. So if you want video chat wait until LTE launches with verizon or stay with AT&T. My thought. AT&T network will get better when people get the iPhone on verizon. Less traffic
