Special Version of RedSn0w for Older iPod touch 2G

Special Version of RedSn0w for Older iPod touch 2G

The iPhone Dev-Team has compiled a special version of redsn0w meant for those with the older (non-MC) iPod touch 2G.

If you have an iPod touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC” you would fall into this category. Remember that you are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting. That means you need to connect your device to a computer to complete the boot after a reset. Also, these devices cannot have custom logos.

The Dev-Team warns not to try this version if you have a newer iPod Touch 2G or if you’re not completely sure what version you have. And of course don’t try it for 3GS or ipt3G either.

iclarified, you need to delete that 2nd paragraph above. That information is all wrong. In fact, if you have an iPod Touch 2nd generation whose model begins with MC, you should NOT use this version (or any current version) of redsn0w. The special version of redsn0w (v0.9.4) is only for "non-MC" model, as stated in the first paragraph. I have such a version and have successfully upgraded to firmware 3.1.3 and jailbroke.

You can find the model number by going into Settings>General>About and scroll down to "Model". If the Model number begins with "MC" you should not upgrade (you can see the Serial Number right above the Model number and they are not the same thing; it is the Model number that matters.)
