Apple AirPods 3 to Use Similar SiP to AirPods Pro [Report]

Apple's third generation entry level AirPods are expected to use a system-in-package (SiP) solution that's similar to the AirPods Pro, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a research note seen by MacRumors, the analyst says Apple is expected to launch new AirPods 3 with an AirPods Pro design in the first half of 2021. When the new AirPods 3 arrive, Apple will likely discontinue AirPods 2.

Suppliers of AirPods Pro components should see shipments grow an estimated 50-100% year over year, says Kuo. Amkor, JCET and Huanxu Electronics will reportedly supply the SiP components and Shin Zu Shing is expected to supply the case hinge.

Shipments of AirPods are projected to grow 28% in 2021, down from an expected 65.1% this year. AirPods sales could spike at the end of 2020 if Apple decides not to include EarPods in the iPhone 12 box.

If you're interested in purchasing a pair of AirPods Pro, Verizon has them on sale for $219.99 for a limited time. They're $234 on Amazon and $249 at Apple.
