Apple COO Tim Cook, speaking at the Goldman Sachs annual tech conference in San Francisco, said that Apple will use a distribution model similar to that used for the iPhone during its onset.
Initially, availability will be limited to the company's direct sales channel and select other retail locations that receive Apple assistance.
"Initially it will be around places with really great assisted sales," Cook said. "Over time it will expand."
Cook revealed that he has personally been using an iPad for about six months and believes that consumers will find it hard to purchase a netbook once they have experienced the iPad for the first time.
"The experience is just absolutely incredible," he said. "And so we're obviously very excited about this thing and can't wait to start shipping it."
