Apple's 29W Power Adapter Does Not Work With the MagSafe Duo Charger

Apple's 29W Power Adapter Does Not Work With the MagSafe Duo Charger

Apple has updated its support document for the MagSafe Duo Charger to note that its 29W power adapter is not compatible with the charger.

The $129 charger does not come with a power adapter. Previous instructions noted that it would work with 20W or greater adapters.

Use the included USB-C to Lightning cable to plug in your MagSafe Duo Charger to a recommended 20 watt (W) or greater Apple USB-C power adapter* or a compatible third-party USB-C adapter. You can also connect to a USB-C port on a Mac or PC.

Apple now notes that it will not work with the 29W adapter.

* The Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter isn't compatible with the MagSafe Duo Charger.

To get full iPhone charging speeds you will need to use a 27W power adapter or higher.

Higher wattage adapters at or above 9V/3A will also deliver a maximum of up to 14W peak power to iPhone 12. To use both the iPhone and Watch charger at the same time, the MagSafe Duo Charger requires at least 15W (5V/3A or 9V/1.67A), but this will result in slower charging.

We'd suggest using Apple's 30W power adapter which is available for $49 or $47.97 on Amazon.

What happens if you use the 60w? For example the one that comes with MacBook Pro?

All the products have a wattage limiter so I assume it should be okay but best to check with Apple support
