Hostage Situation at Apple Store in Amsterdam [Video]

A gunman has taken at least one person hostage at the Apple Store in Amsterdam.

It appears the incident started as an armed robbery and has turned into a hostage situation that has been ongoing for over two hours.


The Amsterdam Police issued the following statement on Twitter:

Regarding the safety of the people involved in the hostage situation at the Apple Store at Leidseplein, we would like to ask all public to stay away from the site so the police can focus on dealing with the situation.

Video from the scene shows the gunman holding one hostage while waving his gun about. It's unclear if there are other hostages in the store; however, police have asked users on social media not to share ideas on where individuals may be in the store.

There are several reports in the media about locations in the Apple Store where people could possibly be. We would like to ask everyone to exercise restraint in sharing such information for the sake of security.
