That new high-end machine will include chip options that are at least twice or four times as powerful as the M2 Max. Let’s call those chips the M2 Ultra and the M2 Extreme. My belief is that the Mac Pro will be offered with options for 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 graphics cores—along with up to 256 gigabytes of memory.
Gurman says one configuration in testing has 24 CPU cores (16 performance, 8 efficiency), 76 GPU cores, and 19GB of RAM. That machine is running macOS Ventura 13.3, ahead of the release of macOS Ventura 13 tomorrow. Still no word on how upgradeable the desktop will be.
The new Mac Pro is now expected to arrive in 2023; however, Apple could still release some new computers this year. The company has 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 Pro/Max chips on the way. The M2 Max is said to have 12 CPU cores (8 performance, 4 efficiency), 38 graphics cores, and up to 64GB of memory.
Additionally, a new Mac mini with M2 is likely coming soon with 8 CPU cores and up to 10 graphics cores. An M2 Pro variation of the Mac mini has also been tested.
