Samsung has announced mass production of a new touch-integrated OLED display for notebooks.
The new display is 16-inches in size and features a 16:10 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3K resolution. It's likely that Samsung will debut the display in a next generation Galaxy Book set for unveiling at the Unpacked event on February 1, 2023.

The so-called OCTA (On Cell Touch AMOLED) technology, a touch-integrated OLED developed by Samsung Display for the first time in the world in 2010, forms a touch sensor inside the panel instead of attaching a touch-recognizing film (TSP, touch screen panel) to the panel surface. It is a skill. It is eco-friendly because it does not use plastic touch film and adhesive, and the panel structure is simplified, reducing the thickness and weight.
The company has been focused on developing its 'large-area OCTA technology' as demand for laptops with touch functions has increased and the market for OLED laptops has expanded. Development has been challenging. Lee Ho-joong, head of the product planning team for small and medium-sized displays, said, "As the display area increases, the number of touch sensors required for touch-integrated technology increases, and the level of difficulty of the technology rises."
Panels that utilize Samsung's large-area OCTA technology are expected to be installed for the first time in some models of Samsung's next-generation Galaxy Book series to be released next month.
Notably, Apple is also rumored to be bringing OLED to the MacBook Pro as early as 2024. Additionally, recent rumors claim that the company is considering touchscreen panels as well.
