Apple has permanently closed its Northlake Mall store following three shootings at the mall in just 75 days.
According to Bloomberg, the store was open Wednesday morning with no plans to close. Later in the day, employees were informed of the decision and the store was abruptly shut down, four hours prior to normal closing hours for the day.
This happened in the wake of a shooting Tuesday evening outside the Macy's. No injuries were reported in altercation; however, several cars were hit.
Apple has updated its website with the following statement.
-----
In preparation for a new store we plan to open in the Charlotte area early next year, we will be permanently closing Wednesday, March 1st at 4pm.
All of our team members will continue to support our Charlotte customers at Apple SouthPark and the Apple Store Online.
-----
The decision is a blow to Northlake Mall which is already in receivership with close to a 30% vacancy rate.
