Burglars stole $500,000 worth of iPhones and other devices from the Alderwood Mall Apple Store on Sunday night after cutting a hole in the adjacent retailer, Seattle Coffee Gear, reports KING5.
Right after the shops at Alderwood Mall closed on Sunday night, the burglars broke into Seattle Coffee Gear and began cutting through the bathroom wall. After making a 18x24 hole, they had easy access to the backroom of the Apple Store.
Eric Marks, the regional retail manager, believes the thieves spent a significant amount of time planning this as they were able to gain entry to the Apple Store without hitting any pipes or in-wall obstacles.
"I would have never suspected we were adjacent to the Apple Store, how it wraps around I mean," Marks said. "So, someone really had to think it out and have access to the mall layout."
Lynnwood Police tell KING5 that 436 iPhones were stolen, estimating the total loss at $500,000.
A spokesperson for Alderwood said they are "angry" and "working with Lynnwood Police" to help solve the crime. Apple has not provided any comment.
