Apple Debuts iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus

CNET
The iPhone 15's similarities to the iPhone 14 Pro gave me some deja vu. But those coming from an aging iPhone model will find a lot of value in this upgrade, from the new USB-C port to its higher resolution camera, the Dynamic Island and fresh design. As someone who's been using an iPhone 12 for the past three years (when I'm not reviewing other phones, of course), I can say this feels like a big upgrade. That said, if you have an iPhone 14, or even an iPhone 13, you can likely wait a little longer, unless you're super eager to get USB-C or the Dynamic Island.

The iPhone 15 now has an additional 2X optical zoom option, whereas the iPhone 14 only offered .5 and 1X zooms. Portrait mode on iPhone 15 can be activated automatically when the camera detects a portrait-worthy image, though in my experience, the iPhone 15 has yet to deem any of my subjects worthy of portraiture. Also, in Portrait mode, you can now control the depth of the image and zoom out to capture even more data from the scene. This is admittedly a nice feature add. Still, real photography nerds are going to want to go bigger.

Verge
In this metaphor, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus remind me a lot of a mainstream crossover, like a Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4. (If you're curious what the Pro models would be, I'd place them as a more cutting-edge EV.) They are not the least expensive phones on the market, their processor isn't the fastest you can buy, and the design isn't going to turn heads or make anyone say wow. These aren't the platform to showcase Apple's latest and greatest ideas and technologies. But they are capable, practical, reliable, and accessible enough that a lot of people are going to find these phones very suitable for their needs. And they will do a great job as their phone for the next three to four years until they are ready to get a new one.

Pocket-lint
The Apple iPhone 15 doesn't have all the bells and whistles its Pro sibling does, but don't overlook it. It's the model that sees the greatest enhancements, all of which contribute to a truly lovely overall experience. From the refreshed design that makes a huge difference to not only what this device looks like, but how it feels to hold and use, to its huge power and camera upgrades. It might miss out on a higher refresh rate screen, Always-On Display and a third camera lens, but that's really all it misses out on - and none of those are essential.
