Apple is considering bringing cellular connectivity to Macs for the first time, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The company is on the cusp of releasing its first in-house modem with the launch of a next generation iPhone SE in early 2025. The Apple modem is widely expected to make its way to more iPhone models, as well as iPad, over the next two years.

Even better, the new modem has Apple exploring cellular connectivity for Mac.

With its own modem in the pipeline, Apple is investigating the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to the Mac for the first time. That means users wouldn't need Wi-Fi to get online. To date, that capability has been reserved for the iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad. But cellular connections are unlikely to come to the Mac before 2026, when Apple is planning a second-generation modem that includes support for faster speeds.

Bloomberg also notes that Apple has discussed bringing cellular to future models of its Vision Pro headset. It's possible that Apple's rumored augmented reality glasses could feature cellular connectivity as well.
